Chief Inspector Darren Deex, of Essex Police, said:

“This team of officers put themselves in harm’s way in order to affect an arrest and recover what we believe to be stolen items.

“Thankfully, the injuries sustained by the two officers are not serious, but it is a reminder of how the work carried out by police can be difficult – and it can be dangerous.

“That said, OSG officers are highly trained and despite meeting aggression during this incident, they were able to find a way to take control of the situation and make arrests.”
