Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) have been working overnight and have extinguished a blaze at an industrial unit in Harlow.

Eight crews were called to Parkway at 6:40pm, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby units.

Residents nearby were asked to keep windows and doors closed, as a large number of batteries in the unit were producing lots of smoke.

This morning one crew remain at the scene monitoring hotspots, after the fire was put out and scaled down from midnight.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place later today.

Group Manager Marc Diggory said: “Thank you to everyone for their patience while we have been dealing with this incident.

“We’ve had crews working throughout the night to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading further. I’d like to thank our partners for their help throughout this incident, we’ve been working closely in partnership to help keep people safe.”
