A significant fire is currently being tackled at an industrial estate on Ferry Lane in Rainham, on the border of Essex and London - prompting a large-scale emergency response.

The London Fire Brigade has deployed twenty fire engines and approximately 125 firefighters to the scene.

A warehouse containing several industrial units has caught fire, leading to the establishment of a 25-meter safety cordon.

Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke and to avoid the Ferry Lane area.

The fire was reported at 1:11 PM. Crews from Barking, East Ham, Wennington, and Dagenham, along with firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, are engaged in firefighting efforts.

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers have received numerous calls regarding a visible plume of smoke.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson emphasized, “Although we believe these calls are linked to this fire, it's important that you do call the Brigade if you suspect there may be a fire in your area.”

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
