Theyr crews were originally called to reports of a road traffic collision today at 4.42am.

Firefighters from Stansted, Saffron Walden, Newport and Linton (Cambridgeshire). all attended at first and the public were asked to avoid the area.

They then told us a car transporter was on fire on the carriageway.

The fire had been extinguished by 8:25am and the service were then working to recover the vehicle and clear the debris.

Howver, at that time a HGV/trailer had left the carriageway and was on fire down the embankment.

Crews told us at 11:25 that by then, crews were still working to extinguish that fire. Due to the lorry being down an embankment with difficult access, crews were working to remove the lorry before putting the fire out.

During this time they also worked to to recover the other vehicle, cleaning the road of debris and making the scene safe ready for resurfacing works to take place.
