Essex Fire and Rescue say a fire that engulfed two houses in Mayland has been brought under control.

Crews from six stations were called to Katonia Avenue shortly after 4pm on Sunday (22 June).

Incident Commander Dan Wastell gave an update at around 7pm yesterday: "Crews have worked hard and the fire is now under control. It is two semi-detached houses which are fully alight. There is still a lot of smoke coming from the incident so if you live in the area please keep your windows and doors closed."

A fire investigation will now be carried out to determine the cause.
