Fire at Essex Oil refinery under investigation
The site is currently closed while investigations take place
Essex fire and rescue say a fire at an oil refinery last night is under investigation.
Firefighters were called to an incident near the Manorway, Coryton at 6:04 pm. On arrival, crews confirmed that it was a fire in an oil refinery.
Firefighters from stations in Basildon, Corringham, Grays, Orsett, Rayleigh Weir, Southend, Rochford, Canvey Island & Wickford; used a blanket of foam to isolate the fire and extinguished it by 7 pm.
Crews remained on site to make sure the scene is completely cool and safe.
A spokesperson from the Coryton Advanced Fuels said, "Earlier this evening a fire occurred in a contained area of our facility, which has since been extinguished by the emergency services. Our top priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people. We pride ourselves on our safety record and adherence to strict industry safety standards.
"We are conducting a full and thorough investigation with immediate effect, and the site is currently closed so that we can appraise and clean the area. We have no further details at this time."
