Rail passengers will be able to travel through the Essex countryside to the sound of music today (21 August).

There will be live music from around the world for rail passengers on two ‘World Music Trains’ running between Colchester and Walton-on-the-Naze.

One train will travel from Colchester to Walton-on-the-Naze at 11.56am and another will travel from Walton-on-the-Naze to Colchester at 1pm.

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership has teamed up with the Essex Path to Prosperity working with the Essex Cultural Diversity Project and train operator Greater Anglia to host the event, "to welcome people back to the railway".

Jayne Sumner, Rail Engagement Officer for the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, said:

"We are delighted to be able to bring back our very popular music trains at last.

"It’s always an amazing atmosphere on board and we hope the events will attract people to come and enjoy a day out by rail with a difference."

Meanwhile Juliana Vandegrift, Project Manager for Essex Path to Prosperity, added:

"This is a really exciting way to introduce our visitors to the Essex coast in a fun way.

"Hopefully they will explore Walton and the surrounding coastal area with our walking trails and sight-seeing for the day out."

Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager said:

"I’m delighted to see the Music Trains’ return.

"They are a great way to spend a day, bring the community together as the stunning countryside passes by and showcase the talents of our fantastic local musicians."

Tickets can be booked online.
