The University of Essex have confirmed they will accept the A-level results announced today in their admissions process, even as some other universities consider holding entrance exams of their own.

The results for students in East England have been overwhelmingly positive, with a pass rate of 99.4 percent for students in the region.

The percentage of students here with a A or A* grade has also increased to 44.8%, up from 38.3% last year.

The university also acknowledged that the students who took A-levels this year have done so in challenging circumstances.

Ben Hall, their Head of Communications, said:

"What we will be doing is offering this generation of students who have gone through so much extra, dedicated resources to get their university experience off to a flying start."

One of these resources is a free 'Essex preparation' course to offer students an opportunity to learn the skills they will need on the courses they apply for.

Those who finish this course successfully will also be given a bursary of £250 pounds.

Mr Hall also asked those disappointed with their grades to not panic as there are spaces available in many courses across all universities, but did encourage them to get in touch with their favoured universities as soon as possible.
