Almost £30,000 raised for family of Essex surgeon killed in South Africa

Almost £30,000 has been raised for the family of a surgeon from the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.
40 year old Kar Hao Teoh died in Cape Town last week. He was shot after driving into a crowd which was involved in a protest.
A crowdfunder has so far gathered around £29,000, with the cash set to go to his family who live in Hertfordshire.
A tribute on the JustGiving page reads: "The sudden and tragic loss of Mr. Kar H Teoh has left a void in our hearts. Kar was not just a respected Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant but also a dear friend, a dedicated colleague, and a loving family man.
"His contributions to the medical field, showcased his unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare.
"Beyond these professional achievements, Kar was known for his kindness, warmth, and steadfast support for those around him".
Mr Teoh was killed amid unrest in Cape Town due to a taxi driver strike, with the head of the taxi union in South Africa appealing for calm.
At least five people had been killed during the protests.
Dr Teoh won an international prize for his pioneering research into the treatment of ankle fractures in 2021.
