A man's been charged in connection with an in-depth investigation into five shop robberies in Essex and Suffolk.
Braintree CID has been probing five knifepoint robberies at various shops, carried out between January and August this year.
Daniele Aldegheri, of Bocking End, Braintree, is charged with five counts of robbery and three counts of possessing a knife in public.
The 49-year-old is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 5th September).
Their investigation focused on incidents in Silver End, Braintree, Hatfield Peverel, Witham and Ipswich.
On each occasion, a suspect wearing a mask or balaclava entered a store and demanded money from the till, armed either with a knife or metal tool.
On the last occasion, at a Morrisons Daily, in Witham, a three-figure sum of cash was stolen after staff were threatened.
Detectives worked tirelessly around CCTV and witness enquiries to build a case.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said: “To get to the point of charge has taken a concerted effort from a number of detectives, officers and staff within Braintree CID.
“We take a very tough line on offending which targets our businesses.
“Employers and staff have a right to go to work without the fear of facing the threat or fear of violence.
“We’ve taken each report very seriously, working to build a solid case to take to the Crown Prosecution Service.”
