An Essex speedway team says it wants to work with Google to bring the sport back to a disused stadium.

The Arena Essex Raceway, near Purfleet, was shut in 2018 before being sold to a branch of the tech giant in 2023.

But Thurrock Hammers says it wants to work with Google to reopen the arena.

They say there are plans to build a data centre on the site.

A consultation process is currently underway to find out what people want to see the Arena Essex site used for.

Thurrock Hammers say they've submitted a 'comprehensive' response calling for the site to return to use as a speedway stadium - and they're urging others to do the same.

The consultation ends on 4 November.
