Canvey Island Infant School has made the decision to stay closed until the 4th of September, opening a day later than planned. The school has a notice on their webpage - asking parents to phone and leave a message to get in contact - as they don't have access to their emails.

It's to allow teachers to prepare for lessons as they don't have access to school systems.

Headteacher Sandra Dorrington said that parents have been contacted directly and will be updated in due course.

Sandra Dorrington, Headteacher of Canvey Island Infant School, said: “During the summer holidays, the school unfortunately suffered a cyber-attack."

“While we have taken all of the precautionary security measures to deal with any such cyber threat, this attack has resulted in the school’s IT system being compromised."

“The incident has been reported to The National Cyber Security Centre. Essex County Council are also aware and are supporting the school."

A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: “We are aware of a cyber security incident affecting Canvey Infant School."

“We are supporting the school as required to minimise the impact on the start of the autumn term.”
