An Essex Police officer has been convicted of a public order offence due to his behaviour at a football match in Liverpool.

PC Tyler Coppin was also given a three-year football banning order as part of his sentence after an incident during a Liverpool football game against Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday 20 October.

The incident was witnessed by Liverpool stewards and PC Coppin was kicked out of the stadium and arrested.

He appeared at South Sefton Magistrates court on Friday 13 December and pleaded guilty to an offence under S5 of the Public Order Act – behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

He was given a three-year football banning order and ordered to pay fines and costs of £645.

We're told misconduct proceedings will now be progressed.
