Essex Police officer charged with computer misuse offences

A police officer based in Clacton is set to appear at court today (26 January), after being charged with an offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

Police Constable Scott Gardner-McLean, aged 21 and based at Clacton-on-Sea police station, is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

He is accused of using the police computer system to access records he had no legitimate policing purpose for doing so.

PC Gardner-McLean was charged in December, after an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct was carried out between October 2019 and April 2020.
