The Chief Constable of Essex Police is telling us that domestic abuse continues to be the "single biggest cause of harm", in the county

The county Constabulary say the number of these incidents are coming down- thanks to cross organisation work

"We are starting to see a reduction in victimisation"

"We are starting to see a continued and sustained reduction in domestic abuse. But without failing to count it. So, this is not a numerically change- where we recording it a different way- this is because we are starting to see a reduction in victimisation.

"We are doing things like preventing incidents and helping people to make better life choices. Be that young people on consent or it's working with programmes to get people who are not happy with their behaviour to come forwards.

"I'm not condoning their behaviour- but isn't it better if people recognise they've got a problem, themselves?"

"Just shy of one fifth of all crime, has some sort of domestic connection to it"

"Domestic abuse is the single biggest cause of harm in the county. Just shy of one fifth of all crime has some sort of domestic connection to it.

"We have got to be careful that we are there. There is 200 fewer sexual offences, related to domestic abuse, in the past year.

"There have been a thousand fewer domestic offences as well. We seen that compared with previous years. When you look at sexual abuse, almost two thirds of that happens in a domestic setting, in this county.
