New 'movie map' of Essex shows 'top spots' across the county that have hit the screen

Visit Essex has launched the new map to encourage tourism

A new "movie map" showing filming locations across the county has been launched by Visit Essex with an aim to encourage tourism.

The map shows the places in Essex that have been used in TV shows and films.

This includes locations like Audley End House & Gardens which was used in Netflix's The Crown.

Essex has seen growth in TV and film productions being hosted in the county. The Essex Film Office recorded over £3m in economic benefit.

Councillor Mark Durham, Chair of Visit Essex, said:

"Over recent years Essex has seen a boom in TV and film productions, it has shone a light on our stunning woodlands, coast and unique buildings. From Killing Eve to Downton Abbey, Essex has made an appearance on so many well-known TV shows and blockbuster films.”

Other shows and films that have come to Essex include:

  • Mr Bates vs The Post Office - filmed in Shire Hall, Chelmsford
  • Yesterday - filmed in Clacton-on-Sea
  • The Essex Serpent - filmed across the county
  • Downton Abbey: A New Era - filmed in Harwich and Belchamp
  • Batman Begins - filmed in Coalhouse Fort Thurrock and Tilbury Fort
  • and many more
