A man from Essex who is best known for completing the London Marathon in six days while dressed in a deep sea diving suit is set to take on the race one last time.
Lloyd Scott, who lives near Epping, will complete his final marathon while dressed as Captain Scarlet from the Thunderbirds to raise money for Sarcoma UK.
In March 2021, Lloyd had an operation to remove a large tumour from his throat, which he did not know was cancer at the time.
The next month he was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma and later underwent radiotherapy.
In June 2022, Lloyd found out the cancer had returned and he underwent a number of gruelling surgeries.
Fortunately, Lloyd's scans are now coming back clear, and just eight months after his various operations, he's preparing to run the marathon.
He said: "The costume has a personal connection because I used to watch Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons when I was a kid, who would always take part in various missions.
"I feel kind of like him because I've sort of done different missions through the marathons, despite things that I have gone through as well - so he definitely struck a chord with me.
"Despite sustaining so many injuries, he keeps coming back - he's indestructible and whilst I would never say I'm indestructible, I would say I'm reconstructible."
According to Lloyd, "the suit has actually been made from the original patterns and moulds that the actual puppets were made from.
"Obviously they've upsized them - I didn't want it to be just a cheap fancy dress costume, I wanted it to be absolutely authentic", said the 61-year-old.
Lloyd has undertaken a series of bonkers challenges throughout the years such as completing the world's first underwater marathon in Loch Ness, finishing the 3 Peaks Challenge in the deep sea diving suit, and riding across Australia on a penny-farthing.
Lloyd is raising money for Sarcoma UK.
