Cyclists will have the chance to ride from central London to Essex and back, all on traffic-free roads.

RideLondon offers competitors the chance to cycle through London and Essex, starting and finishing in the capital.

It will take place on Sunday 29th May.

This is the first time the event, which was established by the Mayor of London in 2013, has come to Essex, with routes previously running through Surrey.

Kevin Nash, Route Director for RideLondon-Essex says they chose Essex for several reasons: "Essex are very proactive as a county.

"In terms of increasing activity, active travel.... and I think through the county and districts and boroughs and all the way down to the parish and town councils, there's a great excitement to have events in Essex.

"It was a natural partnership really."

Riders can choose to take part in the London-Essex 30 mile, 60 mile or 100 mile ride.

The route for the RideLondon-Essex 100 will set off from Victoria Embankment in central London and into Essex via Epping Forest.

Once in Essex, riders will cycle past some of the county’s picturesque towns and villages, such as Ongar, Fyfield, the Rodings and Great Dunmow.

They'll then join a section of the 2014 Stage Three Tour de France route through Felsted and Chelmsford before heading through Writtle, towards Ongar and central London.

The finish line is at Tower Bridge.

The event is returning for the first time since 2019 after the pandemic led to the cancellation in 2020 and 2021.
