Six people have been arrested in connection with the attempted theft of an ATM in the town of Great Notley.

Essex Police said that all six people were arrested during a series of warrants which took place on Tuesday morning (February 22nd).

Other warrants were carried out in Braintree, Chelmsford and also in Cambridgeshire.

The arrests were in connection with an attempted theft of an ATM from the wall of a Co-Op store in Panners Parade, which happened on January 7th.

The ATM had been pulled from the wall and had damaged the front of the shop in the process of the incident.

Four men aged between 22 and 37 and a 27-year-old woman have been arrest on suspicion of burglary while another woman, aged 23, had also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Speaking about the incident, Chief Inspector Colin Cox from Essex Police said: "We know the impact having an ATM stolen can have,

“It deprives a local community of an essential resource and, as was the case with the incident at Panners Parade, means their access to a vital local shop is also denied.

“This morning’s warrants are the result of some excellent investigative work through our Serious Organised Crime Unit.

“I am also grateful for the support of our colleagues at Cambridgeshire Police for their assistance in executing warrants in their area.”

All six suspects currently remain in custody, pending investigation.
