People in Essex are being encouraged to think local when they return to high streets.

In line with the roadmap out of lockdown, restrictions across the country eased yesterday (12 April).

It means non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality are among freedoms to return.

Essex Chambers of Commerce is hoping residents will help give the local economy the boost it needs.

Director of Policy, David Burch, said:

"It will obviously seem strange for many people but we would encourage them to shop local and support their local businesses, whatever what size they are. It's all part of helping get our economy back to, hopefully, what will be normal sooner rather than later.

"People may feel apprehensive about going into shops but I think they can be assure that businesses will have taken all of the necessary measure to ensure they have all the safety measures in place and staff are coming to work healthy."
