'Don't get locked up after lockdown' says Essex Chief Constable
BJ Harrington has released a video message as lockdown eased
We're being warned not to get locked up after lockdown by Essex Police's Chief Constable.
BJ Harrington is urging people not to cause trouble in Essex as covid restrictions - and temperatures - lift in the area this week.
People are also asked to show officers respect.
In the above video released on Facebook, BJ Harrington talks about how the last 18 months have presented many challenges, but his officers have still been out and about protecting Essex.
He said:
"Some even moved away from their families, so that they would protect their loved ones when not on duty.
"Sadly, some officers and staff have been verbally abused and spat at and assaulted whilst doing their job and that is not acceptable.
"But here at Essex Police, we are here to keep you safe, to look after people and catch criminals."
The Chief Constable added that we're all looking forward to a break, but that officers will not accept criminal activity from locals or visitors.
He has asked us not to give up our freedoms now.
