Citizens Advice Essex is urging people living with cancer to come forward and access a specialist financial support service designed to help with the hidden costs of the disease.

In partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, the Essex Citizens Advice Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service offers vital assistance to individuals and their families across the county.

Funded by Macmillan, the service has a well-established team of 10 expert advisors based in Harlow, Maldon, South Essex, Southend, Tendring, and Uttlesford offices.

Since service launched, with the help of our partners, we have helped nearly 3,000 clients to improve their financial situation, raising over £8,000,000.

These advisors are available for face-to-face appointments, phone consultations, and email support, ensuring accessibility to everyone in Essex, regardless of their location.

Healthcare professionals across Essex have welcomed the service, recognizing the urgent need for financial support among people with cancer.

This initiative addresses the financial impact of cancer, which can be exacerbated by reduced income and increased costs for necessities like heating, transportation, and new clothing.

The financial pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic, coupled with rising living costs, have left more people with cancer facing significant financial hardship.

Many individuals are being forced to make cost-saving cuts that could jeopardize their health, such as buying less food or avoiding turning on the heating.

The service aims to alleviate these pressures, providing crucial guidance and support during a challenging time.

Martin Lord, Director of Citizens Advice Essex, said: "The rising cost of living and, in particular, energy prices are a real worry for so many of our clients, particularly those dealing with cancer. We want to be right there for them, ensuring they can access all the benefits and financial support they are entitled to without the worry or hassle that so many report."
