The director of an Essex building that's been deemed a high risk to life for seven years wants "action" from the government not just statements.

Resident's building, Morello Quarter, in Basildon, has been deemed a high risk to life for more than seven years.

Jennifer Viccars, the volunteer director, tells us they've been awaiting remediation from their private developer for three years, since they were removed from the government's Building Safety Fund.

"We're in a position where our developer still exists, we can't access government money, and the solution they're proposing cuts corners and actually retains the cladding and the combustible money which just can't be the answer."

"We want to know exactly where the government's additional remediation funding is going."

In the Autumn Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves promised £1billion to remove dangerous cladding over the next year.

Ms Reeves said: “We will make progress on our commitment to accelerate the remediation of homes following the findings of the Grenfell Inquiry, with £1bn of investment to remove dangerous cladding next year.”

The chancellor did not say how and if social landlords will be able to access the fund.

More detail is expected later this year.

The National Audit Office has revealed a report showing three in five buildings with dangerous cladding have yet to be identified.

In the same report, they called for the Government to publish a target date for ending cladding remediation.

Florence Eshalomi, Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee, has said “Seven years on from Grenfell, it’s unacceptable that many buildings with dangerous cladding have still not been identified and that the pace of the completion of cladding remediation works is so slow. Residents deserve better.

"I note the NAO’s call for the Government to publish a target date for ending cladding remediation. The HCLG Committee will keep a close eye on building safety issues and, in particular, will be keen to understand the Government's timeline to address dangerous cladding and building remediation.”
