Pool covers have been fitted in all Tendring council run leisure centres to help improve their energy efficiency.

With Clacton Leisure Centre already having them installed, Dovercourt Bay and Walton-on-the-Naze centres will have them fitted today and tomorrow subsequently.

The pool covers are being equipped to reduce heat loss to become more environmentally friendly along with conserving money longer term. In addition to the covers, LED lighting is set to be installed this Spring to further improve energy efficiency at Clacton and Dovercourt Bay.

The council set aside £250,000 from their climate change action plan fund to help contribute to the council’s net-zero carbon target and climate goals.

Mick Barry, a TDC Cabinet Member for the Leisure and Public Realm, commented saying the developments would benefit leisure centre users.

He said, “I would like to apologise for the short-term disruption, and hope leisure centre customers appreciate these projects will benefit them in the long run.”

“Reduced energy costs help to make the leisure centre more sustainable to run- both financially and in support of reducing carbon emissions,”

Dovercourt Bay swimming pool will be closed from 7am-3:30pm on Tuesday 27th February, with Walton-on-the-Naze swimming pool closed from 7am-4pm the following day.

Councillor Alex Porter, Cabinet Member for Leisure, and Tourism, said “I look forward to seeing the finished results once the pool covers and LED lighting has been installed.”
