Our Federation of Small Businesses are urging those looking for a boxing day bargain to shop local, before going to big brands.
It comes after a tricky few years for many firms over here, who have been hurt by the pandemic and the rising cost of living.
"Small Businesses are seeing costs increase across the board"
Candy Richard represents the FSB across the East.
She says it's a make or break period for many:
"The difference your spending could make this Christmas means that this business is around in the New Year to thrive, grow and provide jobs to the local community in the future.
"What you get what you shop at local small business is a really high quality product and service".
"Small Businesses are seeing costs increase across the board. This is pushing up the cost of products, materials and staffing- with energy costs rising as well.
"Around 1 in 4 small businesses saying that it may force them to downsize significantly or close altogether.
"While customers are also being really cautious about spending as well."
"It also makes a real difference to the local community"
"About 60% of people of working age work for a Small Business and about 50% of turnover here in the UK, comes from private businesses comes from small businesses.
"So if you choose to shop locally not only are you helping that small business survive but you're also helping your local community as well".
"Supporting a small business this Christmas not only helps that business survive this Christmas, and hopefully more to come, but it also makes a real difference to the local community and local economy as well".
