An earthquake in Bicknacre has been felt by people in parts of Essex in the early hours of this morning.

The British Geological Society says the 2.6 magnitude quake was recorded just after 5am this morning at a depth of 8 kilometres.

It's epicentre in Bicknacre, around 9km southeast of Chelmsford.

The British Geological Society says it received reports from residents in Bicknacre, Runwell and South Woodham Ferrers.

Some described it as like "an underground train underneath our bungalow".

While another said they were "awoken by a loud bang and rumble" and "felt like pieces of large furniture had fallen over".
