Learner drivers resume tests across Essex
Lessons started back up on 12 April
Learners in Essex will be able to take their driving tests from today (22 April).
Across the country examiners will begin working through the massive backlog caused by Covid-19, which have meant many students haven't been able to book exams.
While the return is good news for those itching to get out on the road, some students whose tests were rescheduled no longer feel confident they will pass.
Dominie Baldry, of Dominie's Driving School in the East of England, said:
"When we booked her student test she thought she was fine to do that, it was booked for February. Now it's booked for the end of June and she's had four months off, she doesn't feel that she'll be ready for that.
"She's looking to move it, to push it back, but can't at the moment be cause there's no slots."
According to Dominie, some of her other students have tried to reschedule their tests due to them being at "inconvenient" times, but the backlog means that isn't possible.
Dominie added:
"We're getting emails through telling us that their tests are being re-booked, and if it's an inconvenient time you can click on a link to re-book it. As far as I can tell, they can't.
"There aren't any times or days, or any tests that they can move them to, they can't move days or anything. That's a little bit stressful for everybody."
According to Dominie, learners who no longer feel ready for their examination feel like they have to go ahead with it, as there's no guarantee when they would be able to re-book if they cancelled.
