Essex records highest drop in drivers caught speeding in the East

Essex has recorded the largest drop in the number of drivers caught speeding in the East of England.

According to Confused.com, which commissioned research on the issue, there was a 43% decrease compared to the previous year, where 86,850 were caught.

The county saw the third lowest amount of drivers found to be breaking the limit in the region, with Norfolk sitting in the top spot with 51,472.

Motorists were caught travelling at speeds of 145, 141 and 140mph in some parts of the county, however the data does not specify where.

The most prolific roads for speeding offences last year were:

  • M25, Epping
  • A13 Trunk Road, between Wennington and Stifford Interchanges, Aveley

The county which recorded the lowest amount of drivers caught speeding in the region was Cambridgeshire at 35,698.
