A dispersal order has been put in place in Chelmsford following information about a planned large car meet.

Around 200 vehicles were planning to meet this evening or tomorrow according to Essex police.

Inspector Sam Girdlestone said:

"We know from previous experience that meets like this, where there are huge numbers of cars attending, are often accompanied by anti-social driving.

“This includes speeding, racing, and loud exhausts which have a detrimental impact on residents living nearby and can be safety members of the public and those attending at risk.

“This dispersal order gives officers the power to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour in this way, or attending this meet, to move from the area.”

The order is in place across the whole of the Chelmsford district until 6am on Sunday.
