West Thurrock to have dispersal order enacted this evening
It'll be in place until Sunday at 8pm
A dispersal order's being put in place this evening (September 22) in West Thurrock, ahead of suggestions there is going to be a large car meet taking place this weekend.
The order, which will be in place until Sunday at 8pm (September 24), enables officers to direct people who they suspect to be causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area or to face arrest.
Inspector Terry Fisher said:
“We are taking this action to keep the public safe and avoid anti-social behaviour.
“Historically, the noise and nature of the driving from these events has cause people living nearby real issues.
“Some previous events have also seen collisions, crime, and disorder take place as a consequence.
“Roads have been blocked while others race nearby, creating a serious risk to all involved.
“Earlier this year we had a similar type-event where a pedestrian who attended was left injured.
“Taking this action will hopefully prevent the event from taking place but gives officers the power to direct anyone believed to be taking part to leave the area to ensure the safety of the public using our roads.”
