People are being invited to join a debate tonight (27 April) on the future of libraries in Essex.

It is being held by Save Our Libraries Essex and will be taking place online at 7.30pm.

The group has invited representatives from the Conservative, Green, Independent, Labour, and Liberal Democrat parties to join in, with people able to ask questions.

It comes ahead of local elections next week (6 May).

A post on the event's Facebook page reads:

"Libraries have been one of the biggest issues in our county in recent years, with imminent closure plans defeated, but a future still in doubt with a closure plan by stealth that will sell off library buildings, get rid of library staff, and have charity shop libraries housed and run by volunteers."

People can join in via the Facebook page.
