A cyclist who was taking part in the Ride London event in Essex has seriously injured their spine after a crash with a car.

The vehicle, believed to be a silver Ford Focus, entered Ongar Road in Fyfield on May 26th, during Sunday's race at 10:25am.

The vehicle entered the closed road, which was shut to allow the event to take place, before colliding with the cyclist and then leaving the scene.

The cyclist has suffered four fractures to their vertebrae.

Police are appealing for information and footage, as well as witnesses, as there would have been several people who witnessed what happened.
