Over 2,100 crimes were reported in Colchester in the year to the end of January, which is a drop of 11%.

Figures from Essex Police reveal there were:

  • 208 fewer violence with injury offences (11% drop)
  • 126 fewer sexual offences (19% drop)
  • 41 fewer robberies (25% drop)
  • 431 fewer burglaires (39% drop)
  • 198 fewer vehicle break-ins (40% drop)
  • 47 vehicle thefts (17% drop)

Officers are continuing to operate throughout the county during the pandemic, and say they have seen an increase in the number of drug offences recorded.

Essex Police says the rise is thanks to proactive work to take drugs and weapons off the streets, through warrants and the dismantling of county lines gangs.

By March, there will be more than 3,369 officers working throughout the county and the force is encouraging people interested in a career in policing to visit their website.
