Crews tackle 100 tonne haystack fire in Braintree
Firefighters spent hours bringing the fire under control
Firefighters have tackled a blaze in Braintree where around 100 tonnes of hay were alight.
Crews from Wethersfield, Halstead, Braintree and Dunmow were called out to Bluegate Hall Farm shortly after 2pm on Tuesday (1 April).
Station Manager Daniel Wastell said: "Crews have done a great job at protecting the surrounding area and preventing the fire from spreading. Some of the roof of the open sided barn has collapsed due to the heat. With difficult water supply we have used the water bowser from Halstead.
"Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the afternoon to monitor the fire until it is safe to hand back to the owner."
By 8:30pm the haystack was allowed to burn under supervision from firefighters and crews left the scene at around 10pm.
