Cordon put in place after reports of 'unexploded bomb' in Essex

A cordon was put in place earlier today (23 February) in Abberton after reports of an 'unexploded bomb'.

Essex Police have confirmed they were called to Rectory Lane at around 9.35am following a report of a "suspicious metal object" in the grounds of a church.

A spokesperson for the force said:

"It was reported to us that it may have been an unexploded bomb.

"A cordon was put in place for the safety of the public.

"It was discovered to be some squashed metal.

"The cordon was lifted at around 11.20am."
