Conservative MP Sir James Duddridge says he will Step Down
He says he's looking forward to spending more time with his family in Southend
Conservative Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, Sir James Duddridge, has declared that he will not seek re-election in the next general election after serving the constituency since 2005.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Sir James expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and a readiness for new challenges.
"It has been an honour to serve the people of Rochford and Southend East as their Member of Parliament since 2005."
The letter outlined Sir James's contributions to the Conservative Party, including his involvement in six general elections and two local government elections. It detailed his roles as a Whip for four years, Minister for Africa for four years, and highlighted his role in guiding the Withdrawal Act through the Commons during his tenure as Brexit Minister.
"I think I have done my time. Forgive me for moving on to do other things. I am looking forward to new challenges and that old cliché, to spending more time in Southend with my family," Sir James added in his letter.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Sir James thanked "the many friends in Southend, Rochford, Westminster, and Africa who have helped me along this journey." As Sir James prepares to step down.
