Colchester woman to pay over £1000 after encouraging people to break lockdown restrictions

She had been warned against organising a gathering in November

The 31-year-old woman had been warned in November against organising a gathering of people as it would breach the coronavirus regulations

Dace Omondiale, of Brooklands has been ordered to pay over £1000 after appearing at Colchester magistrates court on Tuesday 16th February charged with breaching a community protection notice on 19th December.

She was initially issued the notice on the 1st December, which held the same conditions as the warning, and she was told she could face arrest if she didn't comply.

The woman however, continued to post on social media encouraging people to break lockdown restrictions naming the group "Stand Up Colchester"

On 19th December 2020 the group were seen gathering in Culver Square, Colchester.

Omondiale was identified as the group leader and arrested.

She admitted breaching the notice at court on Tuesday.

Lucy Lavender, chairwoman of the bench, said:

“Irrespective of what you believe, the law is there to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of the British public.

"We all have a duty to therefore abide by it.”

Omondiale was ordered to pay a total of £1,173 in fines and court costs.
