Colchester United have signed striker John Akinde on a long term deal, which keeps him with the Us until at least 2024.

The 32 year old left his former club Gillingham earlier this week by mutual consent. He's also played for Lincoln City, Barnet and Alfreton Town.

It expected he'll go straight into the squad for Saturday's clash against Swindon.

Speaking to the cu-fc website, Interim Head Coach Wayne Brown said:"I think he'll be a great asset for us."

"He will give us a different dynamic that I think we have been missing so far this season, a presence and experience - but more importantly, we're hoping that he's going to bring us goals."
