Colchester United has appointed a new Head Coach.

42-year-old Ben Garner will take over from Matt Bloomfield, having most recently been in charge of Charlton Athletic.

The club has said Garner will watch Saturday's match against Bradford City, which will be overseen by Ross Embleton, before taking his first training session early next week.

The club is yet to announce any other staff that will join the new management team.

What is Ben Garner's background?

Garner started coaching early, spending time in the Academy set-up at Crystal Palace.

Working his way up through the age groups, he went on to coach the first team with the likes of Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew, the club has said.

He also spent time at West Bromwich Albion and ATK, before taking on his first role as Head Coach at Bristol Rovers.

He then moved to Swindon Town, where he took the Robins to the Play-Off Semi-Final last summer, and finally moved to Charlton before finding his new home at Florence Park.
