Colchester United lose their sporting director Dmitri Halajko
Dmitri has had 'an offer that he couldn't turn down' from a Premier League club ahead of second league game on Saturday
Colchester United are losing their sporting director, Dmitri Halajko, after just over two years of being at the club.
Mr Halajko started his career at Colchester United before returning twelve years later in July 2022 as the sporting director. In the meantime, he worked in the academies of Norwich City, Leicester City, and West Ham United.
Manager, Danny Cowley, says the club are 'very sad' to lose Mr Halajko.
"He's a great person first and foremost. He's been incredibly supportive helping Nicky and I settle in.
"He's been able to really help the academy go from strength to strength.
"He's been able to develop the provisions that support the first team.
Brothers and management duo, Nicky and Danny Cowley, parted company with League One outfit Portsmouth in January 2023 and were out of work until Colchester United came calling for the pair, just under a year on from their exit from Fratton Park.
The news comes days before the club's second League game against MK Dons. Danny Cowley says,
"MK Dons have a wealth of players that are very experienced and very competent at this level.
"You realise how much depth they've got to their squad. They've got a manager that's got a very clear way of playing.
"Obviously they've had a bit of change with Pete Winkleman leaving and new owners coming in, you never know how that affects everything.
"We're told they're even more aggressive with their recruitment than they've already been. We have to be ready to adapt to that.
"It'll be a great game for us, our first home league game of the season against probably the title favourites and we want to get on the front foot.
