A number of festivals are expected across July and August

Colchester is gearing up for a busy summer of events this year as coronavirus restrictions ease.

As of yesterday (17 May), people across the country have been enjoying more freedoms such as indoor hospitality and hugging loved ones.

While it's been a welcome change for many, people continue looking ahead to the hotter months, in the hope all restrictions will be lifted by the end of June.

Colchester Borough Council is encouraging people to "stay safe and stay local" this summer by making the most of the festivals being held in the area.

That includes the Sausage and Cider Fest on 16 July, Smoke and Fire on 20-22 August, Nearly Festival on 31 July - 1 August and Colchester Fire & Food Festival from 5-8 August.
