Colchester stands with Ukraine
The Ukrainian flag is now flying
The Ukrainian flag has been raised in Colchester today (25 March).
The Borough Council wants to show its solidarity with Ukrainian people as it flies above Colchester Castle and Colchester Town Hall.
Cllr Robert Davidson, Mayor of Colchester, said: “Colchester stands shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian people and condemn in the strongest terms possible Russia’s invasion. I hope that by raising the flag we convey our support to the people of Ukraine and show that we stand with them, demonstrating our respect for their country and our sympathy for its plight as they bravely fight for their freedom, their future.”
Cllr Simon Crow, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: “Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine who have suffered, are suffering and will suffer as a result of the attacks from Russia. We will do all we can to support the ongoing efforts being coordinated by Essex County Council and have pledged our commitment to support and welcome refugees to the borough.”
