People who went to a house party in Colchester on New Year's Eve have been fined around £1,500 each.

Officers went to the Australian Estate and told the 15 or so people to disperse.

However, a few hours later they went back to carry on partying.

Police say they managed to catch them all this time and issued fines.

In a statement on Facebook Essex Police said:

"The majority of people across Essex have made huge sacrifices during the pandemic for the sake of public health.

"These sacrifices include foregoing New Year's Eve parties and time with friends and family.

"This was explained to the party-goers"

When police arrived back at the front door for the second time, some tried to run out of the back.

Officers had already planned for this and all of them were detained, including one on his back in the mud after a short foot chase, officers said.

Fines in the region of £1,500 have now been issued to those who attended.

Two were dealt with at scene for drug possession.

Another male was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of a constable after he refused to provide his details. He remains under investigation.
