A man has been jailed for two years after crashing car while speeding, causing serious injuries to a pedestrian in Colchester.
28 year old Ben Dykes was driving on Berechurch Road, Colchester, at around 6:30am on Tuesday 18 August 2020 when he was in collision with a pedestrian.
He was later seen climbing out of the car's window, after his vehicle ended up in a ditch.
Officers established he was driving over 90mph in a 40mph zone when he lost control of his Audi A3.
The victim, a man in his 60s, suffered life changing injuries.
Dykes, of Bradford Drive, admitted to causing serious injuries by dangerous driving on January 11. He was jailed for 26 months at Ipswich Crown Court last week.
Police Constable Steve Lavis, of Essex Police said: “Ben Dykes was driving too fast on an urban road and lost control because of speeding. It’s as simple as that.
“I would advise any driver to slow down, just take your time and make sure everyone is safe.”
