Bin collections suspended in Essex due to heat
Colchester City Council have announced they will not be collecting some recyclable waste
Colchester City Council have suspended some waste collection services due to the extreme heat.
An Amber Weather Warning has been issued by the Met Office, as temperatures across Essex could be as high as 33 degrees Celsius today {Tuesday 1 July).
Therefore the authority have taken the decision to suspend dry recycling collections; meaning paper, plastic, cans, and glass.
The council have said this decision was made to prioritise crew safety and the collection of food and garden waste.
A spokesperson from Colchester City Council has said: "With temperatures expected to exceed 30°C on Tuesday 01 July, this decision has been made to protect the health and wellbeing of our collection crews.
"We aim to resume scheduled recycling collections from Wednesday 02 July, subject to a forecasted drop in temperatures."
