Attempted murder arrest following Clacton stabbing
A man sustained serious stab injuries this morning
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident at a Lidl supermarket in Clacton this morning (29 July).
Police and ambulance crews were called to the store in Brook Park West Retail Park at around 11:05am, where they found a man with serious stab injuries to his leg.
He was taken to hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
A second man was quickly detained at the scene.
A knife was recovered, and police have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The suspect, who also sustained injuries believed to be self-inflicted, has been taken to hospital in serious condition.
The Lidl store was evacuated and remains closed while officers continue their investigation.
Essex Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area and said further updates will be provided as soon as possible.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Scrivener said: “I appreciate the widespread concern that will be felt as a result of this incident.
“I would praise the swift actions of staff at the store in question, and the swift actions of paramedics and our officers, which means there is no further risk to the public at this time.
“We are continuing to maintain a presence at the store and it will remain closed to the public while we carry out our enquiries.
“I want to ensure we have as clear a picture as possible of what led to this incident taking place.”
