Crews extinguish high-street shop fire in Clacton
Station Manager Nick Singleton praised the swift actions of the crews
Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that broke out at a shop under construction and two unoccupied flats in Clacton.
Crews were called to Station Road at 8.23am yesterday (9 November), with teams from Clacton, Weeley, Colchester, Brightlingsea, and Coggeshall attending the scene.
Station Manager Nick Singleton praised the swift actions of the crews, saying:
“I must praise crews who did a fantastic job of getting the fire under control so quickly and preventing it from spreading.
"We had to close a section of Station Road and unfortunately this was on the route of Clacton’s Remembrance Sunday parade.
"However, I must thank our partners at Tendring District Council and Essex Police for working so closely with us and finding an alternative route for the parade.”
The fire caused significant damage to the shop and the two flats above it, while two neighbouring flats suffered smoke damage.
The nearby Sports Direct store was also affected by smoke, and customers are being advised to check before visiting to confirm if it is open.
The blaze was fully extinguished by 12.34pm, and the cause has been recorded as accidental.
