Today (August 29) will be the last of the free fireworks extravaganzas to be staged by the Pier during the school summer holidays.

The past few days have been filled with celebrations and events to mark the 150th Anniversary of Clacton-On-Sea.

Tonight's fireworks display is one part of modern day Clacton being celebrated..

Clacton Pier was built in 1871 and remains the town’s most iconic seaside attraction drawing almost one million visitors each year.

It operates all year round with The Lanes tenpin bowling, family arcade, Seaquarium and its new £4 million development.

Further improvements have involved a large versatile events space for the winter months and an enlarged amusement arcade with more than 50 new gaming machines.

The project has made the Pier a 52-week a year attraction to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
