Essex Police appeal for witnesses following serious assault in Chelmsford
The incident took place outside a Bar & Beyond
Essex Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Chelmsford Town Centre in the early hours of this morning, 8th October.
Officers were called to the High Street around 2:15am, following reports of an assault which occurred outside Bar & Beyond nightclub.
It’s understood that one victim was assaulted inside the club, sustaining minor injuries. A group of men were then asked to leave and once outside, a further altercation took place, and a second victim was seriously assaulted.
Officers attended the scene and, within half an hour, arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody.
The victim of the second assault remains in hospital in a serious condition, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detectives are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Clare Wreford said “Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances of this assault and we are working with the nightclub to determine what has happened.
“CCTV enquiries have shown a number of people to be outside Bar & Beyond at the time of the assault and we are urging those people to contact us with any information, no matter how small to assist with our enquiries.”
