Man charged for dangerous driving after teen dies in Essex

A man from Chelmsford been charged after an investigation into a crash which claimed the life of a teenage boy in Stock.

15 year-old Freddie Coleman died in the incident in November 2023, and another teenager was seriously injured.

Stephen Mahebadevan, who's 25-years-old and from Orford Crescent, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

An Essex police spokesperson said, "A lengthy investigation into a serious collision which claimed the life of a teenage boy in Stock has seen charges secured.

"Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit has continued its enquiries, following a call to us shortly after 8.20am on Friday 3 November 2023.

"It was reported a vehicle had collided with two children in Stock Road.

"Despite the best efforts of medics, 15-year-old Freddie Coleman sadly died at the scene.

"A second teenager suffered serious injuries in the collision.

"A man was arrested following the collision and released on bail as our investigation continued.

"After submitting a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, charges have been brought against Stephen Mahebadevan, 25, of Orford Crescent, Chelmsford.

"He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday 28 November."
